Sharp Light on Cottage Backs Collygate



Back to oils again with another view painted from my garden (the dandelions aren't mine by the way). This is a 10 x 12 oil on canvas painted in one wet. My initial motivation for this was the light on the rooftops. Aren't windows difficult? Very easy to overstate the detail of the frames!

Well its a start



I will be the first to admit that I am not a watercolourist (yet) but, as this is the first picture that I have done in weeks, and therefore a bit of a milestone, I thought it was worth posting. If you have seen my blog before you may know that I have been too preoccupied over the last couple of months to paint. Well things are improving. Dad is now settling in at the nursing home and I am keen to get back on track with my painting.

This 14x8 sketch of a corner of my back garden was done on Waterford 300lb NOT and it took about an hour. I wanted to say something about the temperature contrast between the shaded foreground and the area in sunlight. Looking at it now I wish I had kept the sunlit areas a little warmer.

Before I go I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has sent me messages of support over the last few weeks - these have helped me tremendously.
